The existing termination (3 fem. s. instead of masc. pl.) must be due either to the attraction of the preceding word ``arC (fem. sing.) or to that of the combined phrase ``HyTw-arC i_(Cassuto)_i 48.001.026~ ``njSh -- plural of majesty (Driver) -- plural of fulness (Kidner) any implication that others had a hand (angels) in our creation is quite foreign to the chapter as a whole and to the challenge in Isa. 40:14 'With whom took he counsel?' | ``bclmnw -- original significance in Canaanite tongue was, judging by Babylonian usage, corporeal, in accordance with the anthropomorphic conception of the godhead among the peoples of the ancient east. But here idea is spiritual. (Cassuto) 48.001.027~ ``aT-hadM -- The Hebrew word ´ādām (man) is a collective and is therefore never used in the plural; it means literally "mankind" (Von Rod) 48.001.031~ ``mad -- It could also be translated "completely perfect" (Pr.), and rightly refers more to the wonderful purposefulness and harmony than to the beauty of the entire cosmos. (Von Rod) 48.003.006~ mvvv Tawh-hwa_ljynyM vvvm -- it was desireable to the eyes i_(something beautiful to look at)_i 48.003.008~ This is what soon happens when innocence is given up by succumbing to Satan's clever word play. -- And, thus, through the ages, a wonderfully glorious God is so difficult to find in our collective thoughts and lives. The Psalmist has discovered what now is so often missing: "Thou wilt show me the path of life. In thy presence is fulness of joy. At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." 48.003.016~ ``TewqTK -- BDB designation of ``TewqTK is controversial. (Look at 2 fem. s., you will desire / of you.) It does make better sense to use it as a noun but it is inconsistent because of the problem that there is no ``T preformative on a regular noun. (Will be) must be understood when taken as a noun. "And unto your husband will be your desire." i_(From Hebrew class notes--1979-80, taught by Dr. Harry B. Hunt, Jr.)_i 48.003.020~ ``Hwh -- Names of people in Heb. were indicative of place in life. Naomi on the surface appears to mean my sweetness, expressive of the mother's joy in the new-born child; more likely it is an Aram. fem. form of Naaman, i.e., sweet, pleasant one, which gives a clear parallel to Mara=bitter one.
